Well it seems that the new LiveScribe Smartpen is inducing a new use of Flash, Pencasting. The pen records audio and pen motion in parallel so you can take notes and record the room audio all in one. The output is a PenCast. LiveScribe makes great use of full screen in flash and has a great ui when you go full screen.

LiveScribe PenCast

Oh watch out, this little pen can do wonders in a meeting. Just press record and take notes, it does all the dirty work for you.

Ribbit acquired by British Telecom for $105M

Congratulations to the team at Ribbit, they are now apart of British Telecom. The deal closed at 8AM and it is a very good day for Adobe Flash Player as a platform. Ribbit has done an amazing job leveraging the existing API’s of the Flash Player for audio based telephony. With the acquisition by BT, they are now going global and extending the reach of lightweight ip telephony.

I think we will look back at this event and realize that it was the start of a telephony race leveraging Flash Player similar to the web video revolution underway today.

Congratulations to the teams at Ribbit. Great work!

RichFLV – Finally, an FLV Editor

I had a situation where I needed to edit an FLV today. And went searching for an application to edit this common file format. It seems that the only FLV editor on the planet is written in Flex using Adobe AIR. I am really impressed by the application and I actually think it is one of the best AIR applications I have used. It is a simple utility and gives you direct binary editability into an FLV file. You can inject and edit FLV metadata and crop at any FLV keyframe.

Hats off to Benjamin Dobler for this great app!🙂

PureMVC is a lightweight framework for creating applications based upon the classic Model-View-Controller design meta-pattern. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the MVC design pattern and the PureMVC ( implementation and then walk through how to use it to build a basic/foundation application. This presentation will also examine the use of Flex Visual Graph Library as a component employed within an PureMVC based application.

Free Flex Training Topic: Beginning Cairngorm

This will be a quick overview into the various parts of the Cairngorm framework. We will create a small Cairngorm application during the session. This app is the same one from my article on Devnet:

I am going to get many of the Flex team to hand around for the meeting so the croud will be extra special for this SILVAFUG meeting.
